INTRODUCTION:This lesson came out of a final project for a college technology class. I had never seen a webquest, so I wanted to explore creating one. It can be modified to fit the needs of the teacher easily. I have created this for 9th graders, but it could be used with any group starting their study of animal & plant cells. LEARNERS:This WebQuest was initially designed with 9th graders in mind. The animal cell and plant cell is a part of numerous high school curriculums, and I figured this would be a good idea to use instead of using a test. While this was designed for an beginning biology course, it should be useful to students in grades 9-10 who might encounter an introduction biology course along with an introduction to a technology course. STANDARDS: This Webquest addresses the following core standards and the 21st century standards:Common Core CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RST.9-10.5 Analyze the structure of the relationships among concepts in a text, including relationships among key terms CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RST.9-10.2 Determine the central ideas or conclusions of a text; trace the text’s explanation or depiction of a complex process, phenomenon, or concept; provide an accurate summary of the text. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RST.9-10.9 Compare and contrast findings presented in a text to those from other sources (including their own experiments), noting when the findings support or contradict previous explanations or accounts.
21st Century Standards Demonstrate critical thinking skills using appropriate tools and resources to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems and make informed decisions.
Demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.
Demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems and operations.
